Since my college days (some 14 years since graduating with my bachelors) I have been interested in learning how to become more productive. It seems I have always taken on more responsbilities than I probably should and I have enjoyed learning how to better use my time. Some say it is a sickness (it very well may be), but reading about, thinking about and implementing productivity ideas is an addictive hobby I have enjoyed for a number of years. I’ve always been great at wasting time and being behind on projects and deadlines, so I am always looking for ways to do a better job at doing my various jobs.
Admittedly, blogging can be the bain of my productivity and it can also been a boon to it. I probably have far too many blog feeds in my reader to give any solid serious reading to all of them, and when I try to read most of them, I find I’ve spent a bit more time than I should have – curiosity can kill time quickly.
However, I do have a few blogs and sites that feed my appetitie for learning more about productivity and some of the latest ideas on how to stay focused and productive at work. Learning new productivity techniques is a time-wasting hobby I enjoy. Here are a number of productivity blogs I have been following and found a number of their articles to be helpful. Give them a look over (if you have the time) and see if there are not a few ideas that might help you become more productive.
I don’t necessarily endorse everything that you might find on these sights – some are quite secular. But, you should be able to find a number of helpful productivity tips to help you give more attention to getting more done.
I’m always open for more ideas and links to look at, so if you have a few suggestions, shoot them my way. Also, check out my far right side bar for a few other productivity links.
Yes, you’ve always been a bit of a workaholic. It’s not necessarily a bad thing… just make sure you balance family time with your other responsibilities. Remember that it is o.k. to say “no” sometimes.I should be more productive, but I’m finding more value in going to Josh’s music, speech, and theatre events, as well as other things like singing in the choir at church. Maybe if should check out some of your sites it will encourage to get my house clean!
I do need to develop the discipline of the “no” statement. I’m not too good at it, but getting better. I hope to post next week on my approach to attempting to be intentional in balancing life priorities and responsibilities.
Regarding organization and house cleaning – are you familiar with http://www.flylady.net I’ve heard good things about it- I should probably link it too.
Bret,
I have enjoyed reading the different websites that you have mentioned, but I found a link on lifehack and I have spent more time there since the webmaster has get .pdf files that have increased and stabilized my task management skills. The site is http://www.davidseah.com. His printable CEO series is the “bomb” that helped me bring order!
Martin – I had not yet seen the printable CEO. Quick glance – looks interesting. How long have you been using it? Hopefully you don’t have to drink from the bottles at the top of the blog site for it all to work.
I have been using it for about six months or more. I am still getting the hang of it in certain areas such as a home schedule, but I am working on that aspect consistently.
I definitely do not have to drink from the bottles (LOL)!
P.S. Obviously David Seah’s documents require that a person print them out
(currently), but in the future he will have the planner in program form . The reason I use the printable form is that I am able to bring the paper with me.
