Great article, thanks for the link. In our last church, we had a wonderful music pastor who was very passionate about hymnology and was very faithful to explain many of the songs we sang. Not only the words, but also the background of composer and his/her inspiration for the song. I came to appreciate and love many hymns, some new and some that I had already been singing for years. This appreciation has led to more meaningful worship while singing. I still find that, from time to time, I get lazy and need to consciously focus on what I’m singing, but at least now I know the importance whereas before I was likely content to sing “difficult” songs without understanding. I am thankful in our church now that we learn new songs each month. It is definitely true that repetition increases comprehension and appreciation. Thanks again for the link.
